Does Illinois tax Internet sales?

Yes, if the merchandise will be used or consumed in Illinois. Illinois retailers collect sales tax, including any local taxes, if the merchandise is delivered to an Illinois location. Generally, out-of-state retailers are not required to collect tax (but may do so voluntarily). When tax is not collected, Illinois residents must pay use tax directly to the Illinois Department of Revenue. See Form ST-44, Illinois Use Tax Return, for more information.
