Why do I get an error message when I enter my Employer’s ID number in your IL-1040 Web File program?
The Web File system is looking for the 9-digit employer’s identification number from Box b of your W-2 forms and not the 8-digit state employer’s identification number. If you enter the number from Box b of your W-2, you should be able to continue with your filing.
