If you received a letter from the Illinois Department of Revenue detailing the web file and other electronic filing methods available to taxpayers, your IL-PIN is located above your name and address on the outside of the envelope that contained this letter. If you are filing jointly, your spouse's IL-PIN is the second 8-digit number.
If you received a booklet in the mail, your IL-PIN is the first 8-digit number above your name on the pre-printed label in the booklet. If you are filing jointly, your spouse's IL-PIN is the second 8-digit number.
If you are a first-time filer you will not have an 8-digit IL-PIN. You may still file your return electronically if you have a valid drivers license or state ID card issued by the Illinois Secretary of State.
If you did not receive your IL-PIN in the mail, you may use our IL-PIN inquiry system to see if an IL-PIN has been assigned to you. You may also call our toll-free number at 1-800-732-8866 and use our automated PIN inquiry system on our Voice Response Unit.
