Why should I file a tax return if I am just a student?

I am just a student.  Why should I file taxes?

You must file an Illinois Form IL-1040, Individual Income Tax Return, if you were required to file a federal tax return.  Even if you were not required to file a federal tax return, you must file an Illinois tax return if your base income is more than your exemptions.
