What if I am in a civil union?

If you are in a same-sex civil union, Illinois considers you and your partner spouses for Illinois Income Tax purposes, starting with the 2011 tax year.  Follow the instructions for same-sex civil unions.

If you and your partner are treated as spouses for federal income tax purposes (such as an opposite-sex civil union), you should follow the instructions for married couples.
